How It Works
Complete the order form below. Email with any questions. Ship me the number of t-shirts indicated for the size of quilt you would like (see below). Please do not cut or alter the t-shirts, all you need to do is launder them and ship them to me! I will take it from there.
I measure every shirt graphic to find one uniform size for cutting. Based on that uniform size, I cut them, heat press onto interfacing (to provide stability for sewing/quilting) and trim where needed. Once all shirts are interfaced, I lay the shirts out in a pattern and text a photo to you. This is where you can make any changes to the layout and/or approve the layout.
Once you approve of the layout, I sew borders on each shirt. The size of the borders depends on the shirt sizes and the amount needed to reach the desired quilt size. This can be 1 inch or 3 inches depending on the need.
The buyer chooses the backing and binding color. In stock colors are Black, Dary Grey, Light Grey, White, and Natural (Beige). If you would like another color, I can order it. The buyer will also choose the thread color or I can do that for you!
Once the quilt top is complete, I piece the backing and binding. The backing is pinned on the machine, batting of your choice is laid on top of the backing, and finally the quilt top is placed on top to create a quilt sandwich. I sew a meander stitch, edge-to-edge, then sew the binding on the front via the quilting machine, and finally, I bind the back by hand to bring the t-shirt quilt to the finish line.
Once the quilt is finished, I send an invoice for the service and exact return shipping costs. I do not charge handling fees, or for shipping materials. Upon receipt of payment, the quilt will be dropped at the carrier facility no later than the next business day. I ask for 3 weeks lead time as t-shirt quilts are labor intensive. Your quilt is not placed into the queue until it is received at my location. I will confirm the receipt via text or email, and the time clock will start.
Size Choices and Options
I make quilts large enough to hang well over the sides of the bed. Below are the approximate dimensions. If you prefer smaller/larger, just make these notes in the Special Instructions Field.
Mattress Sizes and Quilt Sizes:
Finished Throw Size: ~40” x 40” up to ~ 60” x 60”
Twin Mattress Size: ~38” x 75” - Your Finished Quilt Size ~ 70”x 90”
Queen Mattress Size: ~60” x 80” – Your Finished Quilt Size ~ 90”x 96”
King Mattress Size: ~76” x 80” – Your Finished Quilt Size ~ 102” x 102”
Number of Shirts/Pieces Required by Quilt Size
If a t-shirt has a front and back graphic and you want both in the quilt, that counts as 2 pieces. If you only want one side used in the quilt, please mark off the side you do not want in some obvious way, or place a safety pin on the side you do want to have in the quilt.
Throw size requires – 4 to 8 shirts/pieces
Twin size requires either 10 or 15 shirts/pieces
Queen/Full size requires either 20 or 25 shirts/pieces
King/California King size requires 30 or 36 shirts/pieces
If you are using baby/toddler, or young child shirts, these sizes would require additional shirts/pieces to get to these sizes (or significantly larger bordering). We can discuss that prior to shipping me the shirts.
